Indicators focused on output and productivity, manufacturing competitiveness, and the knowledge economy.
What is the importance of Economy?
This section provides information on three groups of indicators commonly used to measure economic well-being and overall capacity for competitiveness. The first group of indicators monitors changes in output and productivity; the second group of indicators focuses on measuring the manufacturing competitiveness, and the third group of indicators provides measures of knowledge economy. Data and indices of change are provided for the U.S. and Mexico with emphasis on Border States. Because the size of economies differs widely among Border States as well as between the U.S. and Mexico, the focus is on relative measures such as Gross Domestic Product per capita or engineering occupations as a percent of total employment.
