Electric/ Electronic Products

Overview

What is the importance of U.S. imports of electric and electronic products from Mexico through Arizona’s BPOE?

Electric and electronic manufacturing products comprise the top commodity imported from Mexico through Arizona’s border ports of entry, and represent one of the key components of the North American production sharing system. The dynamics of electric and electronic manufacturing product flows through Arizona’s border ports of entry reflects composite effects of both the manufacturing integration between Arizona and Mexico, and between Mexico, Canada, and other U.S. states that use Arizona's border ports. This indicator shows the role Arizona’s border ports play in the overall flow of imports from Mexico. Among Arizona’s six border ports of entry, Nogales facilitates the largest volume and value of northbound exports of electric and electronic manufacturing products. San Luis is distant second, followed by Douglas.

What is measured?

This indicator includes U.S. imports of electric and electronic products from Mexico through Arizona’s border ports of entry. Data include all imports of electric and electronic products from Mexico that are destined for Arizona and other areas of the U.S. and Canada. U.S. imports of electric and electronic manufacturing products from Mexico are shown for each Arizona border port of entry. Totals for AZ BPOE reported by the U.S. Census Bureau in this category include Tucson and Phoenix, as they serve to facilitate imports from Mexico by air freight.
