The majority of manufacturing exports are related to the maquiladora sector, and associated export industries in Mexico, combined within the IMMEX program ( Industría Manufacturera, Maquiladora y de Servicios de Exportación ). The dynamics of Arizona’s manufacturing exports to Mexico provides a composite measure of Arizona’s manufacturing strength, integration with Mexico’s production-sharing system, and overall competitiveness in Mexico’s consumer markets. It is also an indicator of how well Arizona utilizes its geographic location as a border state, and as a key U.S. gateway to Mexico.
