A Major Pandemic Shock, Followed by Strong Recovery

Arizona trade with Mexico has recovered or nearly recovered from the pandemic shock of 2020. Arizona total trade with Mexico (exports plus imports) through the first four months of 2022 has nearly returned to its 2019 level. U.S. total trade through Arizona BPOE during January to April 2022 was well above its 2019 level. Truck, train, and personal vehicle crossings through Arizona BPOE during the first three months of 2022 were well above their 2019 level. However, while pedestrian and personal vehicle passenger crossings improved significantly in 2022, they remained well below their 2019 level.
