Arizona's trade performance was solid in 2022

Arizona exports to Mexico were up 26.3% over the year, totaling $770 million. Exports to Canada from Arizona came in lower at 11.6% over the year.

Imports from Mexico into Arizona were up 27.1% over the year, coming in at $991 million. From Canada, imports into Arizona decreased by 12.4% over the year, totaling $168 million. The Canada import data comes off a two-year high figure in November of $254 million.

The value of U.S. exports through Arizona BPOE was $963 million in December, up 5.8% over the year. U.S. imports through Arizona BPOE totaled $1.6 billion in December, which was down 1.6% over the year.

With the December 2022 release, we now have preliminary full-year results. Arizona exports to Mexico in 2022 were up 7.0% from 2021, totaling $8.7 billion. Exports to Canada from Arizona in 2022 were $2.5 billion an increase of 10.2%.

In 2022, imports from Mexico increased by 16.0% to $10.9 billion. From Canada, imports were up 11.1% to $2.6 billion. Imports from Mexico hit an all-time high in 2022 and imports from Canada were close to an all-time high.

The value of U.S. exports through Arizona BPOE in 2022 was $12.0 billion, which was a small increase of 1.5%. U.S. imports through Arizona BPOE in 2022 was $21.0 billion, a large increase of 19.5%.
