The Arizona-Mexico Economic Indicators Annual Report 2020, June 30, 2020, summarizes key trends for the decade 2009-2019 and examines the first four months of hard data available for 2020 and analyzes the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. However stay tuned to the website as things are changing rapidly. As with the website, the Annual Report highlights Arizona's performance relative to other border states. Indicators and trends for U.S. and Mexico border states are bench-marked against national figures for the U.S. and Mexico.
Background
In 1999, The University of Arizona in partnership with the Arizona-Mexico Commission developed and began publishing a unique set of regional economic indicators for the Arizona-Sonora Region. The last Arizona-Sonora Region Economic Indicators and Regional Initiatives report was completed and published in June 2009. Since then, both the economic and political landscapes have changed at regional and global levels. Although Arizona’s economy is most closely related to the neighboring State of Sonora, a growing and changing Mexico presents further opportunities for economic relationships. Thus, the scope of this website and the Annual Report has expanded to cover the Arizona-Mexico relationship.
