Today, Internet access is increasingly necessary at individual, company, and societal levels for finding employment, expanding innovation, and remaining globally competitive. At the individual level, access to internet at home is especially important as an educational tool for middle- and high-school students.  Studies have shown that disparities in access to technology has led to a gap in performance, which in return affects participation in the knowledge economy.

What is measured?

Access to Internet is defined as the proportion of individuals in households with access to Internet, to the total population. More specifically, it consists of individuals 3 years and older residing in households with Internet access, as a percentage of the total population 3 years and older living in households.

How competitive is Arizona?

To gauge Arizona’s relative competitiveness, the proportion of individuals with access to Internet is compared with other U.S. border states. Data are provided on annual bases with indices of percentage change between observed periods.
